Why Cognitive Hypnotherapy?
Developed in 2001 by Trevor Silvester, Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a powerful yet flexible therapy
A flexible approach
Cognitive Hypnotherapy is based on the premise that nothing works on everybody. Different treatment options need to be available for different people, even though they might present with the same issue. The emphasis is on avoiding labels, and instead helping the client identify patterns of thought, behaviour, and history that create their issue. We then develop a bespoke treatment package based on the unique way that particular client thinks.
It provides a framework within which client information can be understood in such a way as to guide treatment choices using techniques drawn from any other area of therapy. This gives each therapist the maximum degree of flexibility to creatively help their client reach their solution.
Evidence based
In 2012 we launched a research programme in collaboration with the Pragmatic Research Network. The project measured the effectiveness of Cognitive Hypnotherapy compared to other treatment options currently offered within the NHS.
Results showed the robustness of Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy as a therapy model. In an average of six sessions, 71% reported themselves recovered, compared to 42% of people using other IAPT therapies (including CBT). You can read more here: https://www.qchpa.com/evidence-based-therapy/
You’ll be learning a hypnotherapy approach with a true evidence base, and we know of no other school that can truly say that.
Two recognised qualifications
This course will qualify you to practice as a Cognitive Hypnotherapist and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) Practitioner. Providing the skills to make you effective, and enable you to pursue it as a viable way of earning a living.
This course is accredited with the National Council for Hypnotherapy, one of the largest organisations of its kind in the UK.
While studying with us you will automatically receive Student Membership of the NCH.
You are also eligible to join the Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy Practitioner Association which has therapist directory and offers ongoing and open-ended support.
Why QUEST?
What makes us different…
Support
Our programme has been designed to provide support at each step of the way. The online lessons have a discussion feature which is monitored and questions can be answered by the lead trainers.
Every student has access to free supervision from Sarah Ariss (Training Manager), during the course, answering any queries which arise. There are also Facebook groups for both your cohort and the Questie Clubhouse where all our graduates can connect and support each other.
Every student receives Student Membership of the National Council for Hypnotherapy during their training.
Learn from the founder
Trevor Silvester is an internationally recognised therapist and NLP Trainer, and the founder of Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy. His flexible and creative approach has led to him establishing a reputation as a highly effective therapist and trainer over the twenty five plus years he has been practising.
Trevor is the author of five best-selling books and was the Editor of the Hypnotherapy Journal, the magazine of the National Council for Hypnotherapy, and served on their committee for twelve years.
A thriving community
Here at Quest we believe in community, in building each other up and in sharing resources so that we really can change lives.
To this aim, in 2015, we founded the QCHPA (Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy Practitioners’ Association). The QCHPA primarily exists to benefit those who belong to it, and those its members serve – the public. So, instead of being a limited company the QCHPA was created as a Community Interest Company. CIC’s are very cool because they limit the use of any profit made, it has to be spent on the purpose for which it exists. We liked that.

A range of payment plans (read more)
We meet everyone wishing to take the course. Submitting an application form does not commit you in any way, it simply reserves you a place on our interview list. Upon receipt of it we will contact you to arrange a meeting. Following its successful outcome your place is secured by a deposit of between £590 and £1625, depending on the payment option you choose.
For students committed to taking the course we aim to make the cost affordable. To that end we have payment options which we think offer unrivalled flexibility and value. The fees include all training materials and support throughout the course.
Our payment plans are spread over a 15 month period (the course is 11 months in duration) and are an investment of up to £3875 (again depending on the flexible option you choose).
If you choose to add the HPD certification there is a further £275 charge for this.
Real people to answer your questions (read more)
We have completely redeveloped the QCH Diploma course, following the upheaval of Covid-19. During this time, we realised that offering the option of study that was flexible and, at the same time, included excellent content, support and face to face practice was the way forward. We wanted to offer the same high standard of teaching to students in the UK and across the globe.
We have a team of experienced QCH Practitioners in place to monitor the online training and answer any questions that arise, in real time.Trevor and Sarah are available to explain, expand and discuss anything that arises from the course – either by email, zoom or phone.
Each module will culminate in a weekend intensive, which you can attend in person at Regents University in London, or in person online at the same event, with the support of a dedicated assistant.
The weekend will provide a structured and modular experiential learning experience, building your expertise and confidence in working with clients and delivering the numerous interventions we teach.
We have always had students who attend from abroad, but clearly this was limited. Now, we foresee training in Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy being completely available to people worldwide, without them needing to leave home. The standards will be just as exacting, but without the jet lag. Similarly, people for whom a weekend away from home or family is impossible, can now participate.
There are also 6 live webinars over the course of the 11 months where you’ll receive instruction and have the opportunity to practice and check your understanding with the teaching staff. We know that support from real people, when you need it, makes all the difference.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many hours a week will I need to study for? (read more)
This is difficult to be specific about because people study at different speeds, and retain at different levels. Also, the word ‘need’ constrains the question. As a generalisation, 4 hours per week in the first half of the course will be enough for most people to cover the material adequately. In the latter half it will probably rise to 4-6 hours. However, we encourage you to practice the skills and techniques as much as you can, so while ‘4-6 hours is what you ‘need’ to pass, the more you can do beyond that, the more skilled you’ll be at graduation.
Do I have to have previous experience? (read more)
Nope, we love it if people bring all sorts of background, skills, cultures and ideas to the course. Our students have often been our best teachers. We do have students that have a background in therapy, but at least as many have no previous experience – and yet go onto develop successful careers.
Is the Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma HPD a recognised qualification? (read more)
Our students complete the Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma (HPD), which is as recognised as it’s possible to be in this country. It is accredited by the National Council for Hypnotherapy, and externally verified by the NCFE.
How can I practice in between the training sessions? (read more)
We encourage you to practice with friends, colleagues and relatives in-between your learning.
Students also set up practice groups that meet between modules. You can do this because of the way we teach QCH, sliced safely into discrete sections and building gradually. There are also webinars between modules which give practice opportunities.
Will I be able to set up in practice as soon as I graduate? (read more)
Yes. We do encourage a gradual build, rather than resign from your job and go full time immediately (although some have done so and been very successful). Like any other business it takes hard work, motivation and commitment, BUT we are there to support you within the large network of fellow graduates, some of whom will be at your level, and others with up to 20 years of experience of building their practice. We have the proof that, although it’s not easy, it is possible and we have enough graduates doing it to know it’s possible.
By the end of this course, when you submit all of your coursework, you will qualify with the Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma HPD, which allows you to practice as a professional Hypnotherapist.
